Cambodia Says Border Situation With Thailand Calm Under Ceasefire

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec. 29, 2025) — Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence said Monday the situation along the Cambodia–Thailand border remains calm, with no reported exchanges of fire since a ceasefire took effect late last week.
At a daily press briefing, Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, ministry spokesperson, said Cambodian authorities recorded no attacks by Thai armed forces between noon on Dec. 27 and 8 a.m. on Dec. 29.
She said military regions four and five remained stable as both countries continued to implement the truce agreed during a General Border Committee meeting on Dec. 27.
Socheata said the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces remain on high alert to protect territorial integrity, adding that the government and public are united as the situation is closely monitored.
She reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to fully implementing the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord, signed by the prime ministers of Cambodia and Thailand during the ASEAN Summit in October and witnessed by U.S. President Donald J. Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
The Dec. 27 GBC meeting in Thailand produced an immediate ceasefire, set for an initial 72-hour period. Cambodia said the agreement also included Thailand’s pledge to release 18 Cambodian soldiers detained during clashes in July, in line with provisions of the Kuala Lumpur Accord.
