Cambodia Says Civilian Deaths Climb to 12 in Thai Border Strikes

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec. 15, 2025) — Cambodia reported Monday that civilian deaths from ongoing Thai border attacks have risen to 12, with 74 injured and more than 400,000 displaced, according to Information Minister Neth Pheaktra.

Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, spokeswoman for the Ministry of National Defence, said the situation in Military Region 4 remains calm.

She rejected Thai claims that Cambodian forces targeted civilians, insisting operations are directed solely at Thai military units.

Socheata urged Thailand to halt aggressive actions, stop spreading false information, cease attacks on civilians and infrastructure, and avoid damaging historical sites.

“Peace can only be achieved through concrete actions, not words,” she said, calling on the international community to condemn alleged ceasefire violations and hold Thailand accountable.

Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to the Ceasefire Agreement and Joint Declaration signed Oct. 26, 2025, witnessed by U.S. President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in his role as ASEAN chair.

Officials emphasized Cambodian forces remain engaged in defending the country’s territorial integrity.

Amid continued strikes, Cambodia has appealed for international pressure on Thailand to respect ceasefires, including those recently proposed by Trump and Ibrahim.
