Thai F‑16s Carry Out Airstrikes in Cambodia’s Pursat Province

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec. 13, 2025) — Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defense said Saturday that Thai armed forces used F‑16 fighter jets to conduct airstrikes inside Cambodian territory, despite an announced ceasefire following U.S.‑brokered talks.

In a statement, the ministry said two Thai F‑16s dropped seven bombs on targets in Pursat province, calling the strikes a violation of Cambodia’s sovereignty.

Officials said the attacks began at 5:50 a.m., when a bomb destroyed a hotel in Tmor Da, followed minutes later by another strike on a nearby hotel. At 6:02 a.m., a bomb hit Chei Chomnas Bridge in Pursat province, followed by two more strikes at 6:07 and 6:12 a.m. on the bridge and its old structure. The ministry said bombing continued beyond those incidents.

The reported airstrikes came hours after President Donald J. Trump said he held “very good” conversations with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, announcing both leaders had agreed to halt fighting and return to a peace accord reached earlier with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Trump said a roadside bomb that killed and wounded Thai soldiers earlier this month was accidental but triggered strong retaliation. He added that both countries expressed readiness to pursue peace and continue trade with the United States.

Hun Manet said he spoke with Anwar on Dec. 11 and Trump on Dec. 12 to secure a ceasefire and resume implementation of the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration. He thanked both leaders for efforts to prevent escalation and said Cambodia remains committed to peaceful dispute resolution.

He also proposed that U.S. or Malaysian agencies review satellite imagery from the Dec. 7 incident to determine which side fired first, pledging Cambodia’s full cooperation.

Anwar confirmed he discussed the conflict with Trump and said Malaysia has urged both sides to exercise restraint and return to dialogue through bilateral and ASEAN channels.

As ASEAN chair, he said Malaysia will convene a special meeting of foreign ministers to assess the situation and support de‑escalation measures. He expressed appreciation for U.S. engagement with ASEAN and the confidence placed in Malaysia’s leadership.
