PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec. 10, 2025) — China has called on Cambodia and Thailand to exercise restraint and avoid further escalation of border clashes, as Phnom Penh accuses Bangkok of repeatedly violating a recently signed peace agreement.

Guo Jiakun, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, said as “a friend and close neighbor” to both countries, hopes the two sides will “work in the same direction to prevent further escalation.” He said Beijing will continue to play a constructive role in promoting de-escalation.

His statement came as Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence reported that Thai forces have continued armed attacks on Cambodian territory despite the cease-fire and Joint Declaration on Peace signed Oct. 26.

The ministry accused Thailand of using heavy weaponry, mounting repeated cross-border assaults and deploying large-scale troop reinforcements, calling the actions “clear violations” of the U.N. Charter, the ASEAN Charter and international law.

Cambodia reiterated its “unwavering commitment” to honoring the cease-fire and pursuing peaceful solutions under international law, while urging Thailand to return to compliance with the agreement.
