PHNOM PENH/NEW DELHI (Dec. 5, 2025) — Cambodia and India reaffirmed their longstanding relationship in an exchange of congratulatory messages marking Cambodia’s 72nd Independence Day.

Acting Head of State Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked India’s Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for his greetings, citing the “deep-rooted connection of culture, customs, religions and civilization” that underpins bilateral ties.

Hun Sen said both nations have built a solid foundation for cooperation and pledged to further strengthen inter-parliamentary dialogue.

Birla, in his Nov. 9 message, praised the “warm and cordial relations” between the two countries and expressed confidence that cooperation would continue to expand. He also extended wishes for peace and prosperity to the Cambodian people.

The exchange reflects ongoing efforts to deepen diplomatic, cultural and development cooperation. Cambodia and India share ties dating back more than a millennium, with Indian influence shaping Khmer civilization during the Angkor era.

Formal diplomatic relations were established in 1952, and India has since supported Cambodia’s reconstruction, conservation projects and capacity-building programs.
