PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov. 28, 2025) — Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen met Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son in Phnom Penh on Friday for talks aimed at strengthening trade, security and cross-border cooperation.

The meeting, held at the Senate Building, highlighted what Bui described as strong cooperation between the two neighbors, particularly in commerce. He said bilateral trade surpassed USD 9 billion in the first nine months of 2025 and praised the “stable security situation” along the shared border.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen agreed with the assessment, noting that both countries have worked closely to maintain border security, combat transnational crime and ensure what he called a “border of peace” that supports local communities.

He stressed the importance of expanding infrastructure links to further boost economic cooperation and expressed confidence the two sides could reach their shared target of USD 20 billion in trade.

Samdech Techo also pointed to the planned inauguration in early December of the Mern Chey international border gate, which will be jointly opened by Cambodia and Vietnam. He said the new crossing will facilitate travel, cargo transport and wider economic activity, reinforcing cooperation across multiple sectors.
