PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov. 25, 2025) — Cambodia and Israel pledged Tuesday to strengthen diplomatic ties and expand cooperation in agriculture, education, labor and technology during a high-level meeting in Phnom Penh.

The talks were held between Cheam Yeap, first vice president of Cambodia’s National Assembly, and Alona Fisher-Kamm, Israel’s newly appointed ambassador to Cambodia, who paid a courtesy visit after presenting her credentials a day earlier.

Fisher-Kamm said her mission was an “honor” and emphasized the importance of reinforcing diplomatic engagement and deepening bilateral cooperation.

She highlighted people-to-people links, mutual respect and trust as “the foundation of the friendship and solidarity” between the two nations.

She noted that relations have steadily strengthened in recent years, citing agreements on the recruitment of Cambodian agricultural workers in Israel and cultural exchanges.

She also thanked the Cambodian government for allowing Cambodian students to continue their studies during the recent Hamas attacks on Israel.

Cheam Yeap said the meeting reflected the “spirit of friendship” between the two countries and expressed optimism that cooperation would deliver tangible benefits.

He pointed to progress in agriculture, education, labor and vocational training, noting Cambodia’s appointment of an ambassador and honorary consul to Israel earlier this year.

He also welcomed Israel’s scholarship program for Cambodian agriculture students. Government figures show 2,123 students have participated since 2008, including 153 this academic year.

Cheam Yeap briefed the ambassador on regional developments, including Cambodia–Thailand border tensions, and reaffirmed Phnom Penh’s commitment to the Kuala Lumpur Peace Agreement signed Oct. 26, 2025.

Concluding the meeting, both sides vowed to seek broader cooperation in agriculture, water management, innovation, technology and workforce development, reaffirming their intention to deepen ties in the years ahead.
