PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov.22,2025) — Cambodia’s Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen has sent a congratulatory message to Lao President and party leader Thongloun Sisoulith to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

In his message, Samdech Techo praised Laos for achievements over the past five decades, citing progress in socio‑economic development, poverty reduction and living standards.

He reaffirmed Cambodia’s close ties with Laos, noting cooperation in politics, defense, trade, investment, energy, tourism and regional connectivity.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed confidence that the partnership between the two countries would continue to grow under what he called a spirit of friendship, solidarity and mutual understanding. He wished Thongloun good health and success, and prosperity for the Lao nation.

Laos declared independence on Dec. 2, 1975, following the victory of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party in the Laotian Civil War. The country has since maintained a one‑party socialist system under the party’s leadership.

Cambodia and Laos have long maintained diplomatic relations, strengthened through bilateral agreements and a comprehensive strategic partnership. Both are members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, which has facilitated cooperation on trade, connectivity and cross‑border development projects.
