Cambodia Weather Authorities Warn of Cooler Conditions as Northeast Monsoon Strengthens

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov.21,2025) — Cambodia’s Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology warned Friday that a strengthened northeast monsoon is expected to bring cooler weather across much of the country from Nov. 22 to Nov. 30.

The ministry said the monsoon is affecting the South China Sea, the Mekong Basin, Cambodian territorial waters, the Gulf of Thailand and the wider region.

Lowland provinces including Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng, Kandal, Takeo, Svay Rieng and Phnom Penh are forecast to see minimum temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius (68 Fahrenheit) and highs near 29 C (84 F). Winds are expected from the northeast and east at about 5 meters per second.

In plateau areas such as Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri, temperatures may fall to 18 C (64 F), rising to about 28 C (82 F) during the day. Winds there are forecast at 4 m/s.

Coastal provinces Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot and Kep may see temperatures ranging from 21 C (70 F) to 31 C (88 F), with winds from the southwest and southeast at about 4 m/s. Offshore wave heights are expected between 0.5 and 1.5 meters.

Mountainous areas including the Dangrek, Kravanh and Bokor ranges are likely to be the coolest, with nighttime temperatures around 16 C (61 F) and daytime highs near 27 C (81 F). Wind speeds there may reach 6 m/s.

Authorities urged the public and local officials to take precautions during the cooler spell. The ministry said it will continue monitoring weather conditions and issue further updates if necessary.
