Cambodia Condemns Thai Border Shooting, Urges International Accountability

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov. 12, 2025) — Cambodian authorities have condemned a reported border shooting by Thai soldiers that injured five civilians in Prey Chan village, Ou Beychoan commune, Ou Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province.

The incident, which occurred around 3:50 p.m. Tuesday, was described by Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defense as a “brutal and inhumane act” and part of a series of provocations by Thai forces. Preliminary reports from local officials confirmed the injuries but provided few additional details.

The clash follows Thai Prime Minister Anutin Chanvirakul’s announcement that Thailand is terminating a peace agreement with Cambodia. According to The Telegraph, Thai forces have mobilized troops, long-range artillery and tanks along the border.

“Peace is over with Cambodia,” Anutin reportedly told local media, marking a sharp escalation in the long-standing border dispute.

The ministry said the attack violated the Joint Statement on the Peace Agreement signed Oct. 26 in Kuala Lumpur by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Chanvirakul. The accord was witnessed by U.S. President Donald J. Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who chaired the ASEAN Summit.

Cambodia called on the international community to condemn Thailand’s actions and hold Bangkok accountable for breaching the ceasefire. Officials urged Thailand to halt aggressive activities and respect its obligations under international law.

The Cambodian government reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful dispute resolution and said it had informed national and international media of the incident.
