Cambodian Foreign Minister Briefs Diplomats on Border Dispute with Thailand
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov.08,2025) — Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn briefed foreign diplomats Friday on recent developments in the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute, following last month’s signing of a bilateral peace accord.

The briefing, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Phnom Penh, came after Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul signed a Joint Declaration on Oct. 26 in Kuala Lumpur. The agreement, witnessed by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and U.S. President Donald J. Trump, aims to ease tensions along the shared border.
Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to the ceasefire agreement with Thailand signed on July 28, 2025, and pledged continued adherence to key bilateral and multilateral accords aimed at maintaining peace along the shared border.
He underscored the government’s resolve to uphold the Joint Declaration signed by the Cambodian and Thai prime ministers in Kuala Lumpur on Oct. 26, 2025. The declaration was witnessed by U.S. President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Sokhonn also reiterated Cambodia’s support for the outcomes of the 2025 meetings of the General Boundary Committee and the Regional Boundary Committee, which are tasked with overseeing the resolution of border issues between the two countries.
On the issue of humanitarian demining, the deputy prime minister emphasized that such operations must not interfere with technical work related to land border measurement and demarcation.
He said demining activities should be conducted in priority areas jointly agreed upon by both nations, in line with the Standard Operating Procedure signed in Kuala Lumpur on Oct. 23, 2025.
The Joint Declaration reaffirms both countries’ commitment to peaceful settlement of disputes under international law and pledges implementation of prior border mechanisms. Key provisions include the formation of an ASEAN Observer Team to monitor ceasefire terms and oversee the removal of heavy weapons from the border.
During the signing ceremony, Trump praised the Cambodian and Thai leaders as “high-quality people and gentlemen.” Hun Manet called the day “historic,” while Anwar described reconciliation as “an act of courage.”
Prak Sokhonn’s briefing is part of Cambodia’s broader diplomatic outreach to reassure regional partners of its commitment to peace and transparency.
