Cambodia, Thailand Begin Joint Mine-Clearing Assessment Along Border

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov.07, 2025) — Cambodia and Thailand have launched a joint technical assessment for a humanitarian demining operation along their shared border, Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence said Friday.

The assessment is being conducted by the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) and the Thai Mine Action Center (TMAC) under the framework of the Cambodia–Thailand Joint Coordinating Task Force (JCTF), according to ministry spokeswoman Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata.

The initial meeting took place at 12:05 p.m. on Nov. 7 to evaluate a pilot area in Ou Bei Choan Commune, Ou Chrov District, Banteay Meanchey Province, opposite Nonmak Moon Commune, Khok Song District, Sa Kaeo Province in Thailand.

The ASEAN Observer Team is overseeing and verifying the assessment.

The ministry said all discussions and operations will adhere to the principles and Standard Operating Procedures agreed upon by both countries under the JCTF framework. It emphasized that the demining operation will be conducted with full respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and in a spirit of mutual respect.

Officials advised the public and media to take note of the ongoing cooperation and its humanitarian objectives.
