Cambodia Applauds Historic Peace Agreement with Thailand Signed in Kuala Lumpur

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Oct. 29, 2025) — Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has hailed the signing of a joint statement between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul as a “historic and positive step” toward transforming a former conflict zone into a frontier of peace, friendship, and shared development.

The agreement, titled “Joint Statement by the Prime Minister of Cambodia and the Prime Minister of Thailand on the Outcomes of the Meeting Between the Two Prime Ministers,” was signed on Oct. 26 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and witnessed by U.S. President Donald J. Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the current ASEAN chair.

In a statement released Monday, the ministry said the accord reflects Prime Minister Hun Manet’s “wise, skillful, strategic, and visionary leadership” and reaffirms Cambodia’s commitment to resolving disputes peacefully under the UN and ASEAN Charters.

The ministry extended gratitude to international mediators, especially President Trump and Prime Minister Ibrahim, for their roles in facilitating the agreement. It also praised Cambodia’s armed forces for safeguarding national sovereignty.

The Royal Cambodian Army echoed support, calling the accord a milestone in bilateral relations and a foundation for long-term stability and cooperation between Cambodia and Thailand.
