ASEAN ministers pledge unity and resilience amid global challenges

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (Oct. 25, 2025) — Foreign ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) reaffirmed their commitment to unity and resilience during high-level talks in Kuala Lumpur, as the region faces mounting global uncertainty.

The ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM), chaired by Malaysian Foreign Minister Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, focused on key priorities under Malaysia’s chairmanship and preparations for the upcoming 47th ASEAN Summit and related summits.

Ministers exchanged views on regional and international issues, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace, stability, and prosperity across Southeast Asia. Discussions centered on strengthening ASEAN’s capacity to address complex challenges and building a more adaptable regional community.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn reiterated Cambodia’s commitment to constructive engagement with ASEAN member states and partners, guided by mutual trust and shared benefits.

The ministers underscored that ASEAN unity and centrality remain vital to regional cooperation and stability.

The meeting also reviewed progress on the bloc’s response to the crisis in Myanmar under the Five-Point Consensus framework. The consultation, hosted by Malaysia, brought together regional representatives to promote peace and enhance humanitarian assistance efforts.
