Cambodia, Thailand Launch Border Committee Talks in Kuala Lumpur
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (Oct. 21, 2025) — Cambodia and Thailand opened a round of border committee talks Monday in Kuala Lumpur, aiming to advance a ceasefire agreement and reinforce stability along their shared frontier, according to Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence.

The General Border Committee (GBC) Secretariat Meeting began at 6 p.m. local time, with officials from both sides exchanging documents and reviewing preparations for the Second Special GBC Meeting scheduled for Oct. 23.
Maj. Gen. Nhem Boraden, head of the Cambodian GBC Secretariat, is leading the Cambodian delegation. His Thai counterpart, Lt. Gen. Nuttapong Praokaew, heads the Thai delegation.
The ministry said the talks are focused on strengthening the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire, fostering practical cooperation, and supporting a swift return to normalcy in border areas.
The meeting, which runs through Oct. 22, is being observed by several parties, including the heads of Interim Observer Teams from both countries, representatives from the U.S. Military Attaché Offices in Cambodia, Thailand, and Malaysia, and officials from the Malaysian government.
The statement was issued by Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, spokeswoman for Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence.
