Cambodia Accepts Thai Request to Delay Regional Border Talks
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Oct.20,2025) — Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence said Saturday it has agreed the postponing regional border talks with Thailand until after the upcoming General Border Committee (GBC) meeting between the two countries.
On Oct. 19, Cambodia’s 4th and 5th Military Regions sent letters to Thailand’s 1st and 2nd Army Areas regarding the planned Regional Border Committee (RBC) meetings. Cambodia accepted Thailand’s request to hold the meetings but suggested rescheduling them until after the GBC’s second special session, set for Oct. 20–23 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Following the GBC meeting, Cambodia’s military regions will coordinate with their Thai counterparts to resume planning for the RBC meetings. Discussions will be based on the GBC outcomes, aiming to strengthen cooperation, uphold the cease-fire, and promote peace and stability along the border.
The announcement was made by Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, spokeswoman for the Ministry of National Defence.
