Cambodia, Thailand Military Officials Meet to Strengthen Ceasefire and Border Cooperation
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Oct. 17, 2025) — Military officials from Cambodia and Thailand met Friday at the O’Smach International Border Checkpoint to discuss strengthening communication and cooperation along the shared border, part of ongoing efforts to uphold a bilateral ceasefire and ease tensions.

The meeting brought together the Regional Border Committees (RBC) of Cambodia’s 4th Military Region and Thailand’s 2nd Army Area. Brig. Gen. Nith Narong, deputy chief of staff of Cambodia’s 4th Military Region, led the Cambodian delegation. Col. Yuthasat Setthchai, deputy chief of staff of Thailand’s 2nd Military Region, headed the Thai delegation.
Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence said the meeting was held at the invitation of the Thai Army and focused on practical steps toward peacebuilding, in line with directives from the General Border Committee (GBC) of both countries.
Agenda items included implementing agreements from an extraordinary RBC meeting held Aug. 27, which emphasized increased communication and confidence-building measures.
Ministry spokesperson Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata said the talks reflect both countries’ commitment to peace and stability, following a trilateral meeting in Malaysia on July 28 that led to a ceasefire agreement.
The meeting underscored the importance of military dialogue and regional cooperation in managing cross-border challenges.
