PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Oct.16, 2025) — Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet on Thursday reaffirmed the strength of Cambodia–South Korea relations and emphasized the two countries’ capacity to jointly combat transnational crimes, including online scams, without third-party involvement.

Speaking after a meeting with South Korea’s Second Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Jina and her delegation, Samdech Thipadei said bilateral cooperation has yielded “fruitful outcomes” and will continue to deepen across nearly all sectors.

“Cambodia and the Republic of Korea have made remarkable progress since reestablishing diplomatic ties in 1997 and elevating them to a Strategic Partnership in 2024,” Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said. “We remain committed to strengthening collaboration to prevent, suppress, and combat online scams more effectively.”

Samdech Thipadei also addressed recent media reports from a neighboring country suggesting its leader plans to discuss scam-related issues in Cambodia with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung. He said Cambodia does not require assistance from any third country to manage its internal affairs.

“If this report is accurate, I have asked Her Excellency Kim Jina to convey to His Excellency the President that Cambodia does not need any neighboring country to carry out such work on its behalf,” Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said. “That leader should instead focus on resolving their own domestic issues.”

“As for the bilateral cooperation between Cambodia and the Republic of Korea in combating online scams, our two countries possess sufficient capacity and means to work together bilaterally to resolve the matter — without the need for any third-party involvement,” added Samdech Thipadei.

He added that Cambodia and South Korea possess sufficient capacity and mutual trust to address online scams bilaterally, reinforcing their shared commitment to peace, public order, and regional security.
