Cambodian PM to Attend ASEAN Summit; Peace Accord with Thailand Expected

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Oct.23, 2025) — Prime Minister Hun Manet will lead a high-level Cambodian delegation to the 47th ASEAN Summit and related meetings from Oct. 25 to 28 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where a peace accord with Thailand is expected to be signed.

The accord, aimed at resolving recent border tensions, will be formalized on the sidelines of the summit and witnessed by U.S. President Donald Trump, according to Malaysian officials.

The invitation to attend was extended by Malaysian Prime Minister and ASEAN Chair Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet will be joined by First Lady Pich Chanmony, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, senior officials, and business leaders from the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce and Cambodian Oknha Association.

Held under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability,” the summit will focus on advancing ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future, strengthening ASEAN centrality, expanding cooperation with external partners, and addressing regional and global challenges.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet is expected to hold bilateral meetings with ASEAN and other world leaders to deepen cooperation on issues of mutual interest.

Prak Sokhonn, returning from a four-party meeting facilitated by the ASEAN Chair and joined by the United States, confirmed that Cambodia and Thailand had agreed on the terms of the accord, which will be signed between Oct. 26 and 28.

Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan confirmed Trump’s attendance on Oct. 14.
