Explosions Reported in Thai Territory Opposite Cambodian Border Village
BANTEAY MEANCHEY, Cambodia (Oct.01, 2025) — Three loud explosions were heard late Tuesday night originating from Thai territory opposite O’Bei Choan village in Cambodia’s Ou Chrov district, near border post 44, according to local officials.

The blasts occurred at approximately 10:43 p.m. on Sept. 30 and were audible from O’Bei Choan commune in Banteay Meanchey province. The area has long been a flashpoint for border tensions between Cambodia and Thailand, particularly over demarcation disputes and military activity.
Cambodian authorities have previously accused Thai forces of encroaching on Cambodian territory, including incidents involving the surrounding of homes and land in Chouk Chey and Prey Chan villages—actions Cambodia considers violations of international law and bilateral agreements.
While the cause of the explosions remains unclear, officials noted that similar incidents have occurred frequently in recent months, fueling concerns over potential instability along the border.
Thailand has reportedly mobilized troops and conducted military movements in the region, despite a ceasefire agreement signed on July 28, 2025. The accord, witnessed by Malaysia, the United States, and China, was intended to ease tensions and restore peace in disputed zones.
Cambodia has refrained from military retaliation, reaffirming its commitment to the ceasefire. Officials warned that continued provocations could jeopardize the fragile peace.
On Sept. 27, Thai troops allegedly fired heavy weapons into the An Ses area of Choam Khsant district in Preah Vihear province. Cambodian forces did not respond, opting instead to uphold the terms of the agreement.
Despite the explosions, local authorities confirmed that, as of 7 a.m. on Oct. 1, the situation in O’Bei Choan commune—including Chouk Chey and Prey Chan villages—remains calm and stable.
Cambodian officials have not yet issued a formal statement but are closely monitoring developments.
