Cambodian, Malaysian Defense Ministers Discuss Border Tensions at Xiangshan Forum

BEIJING, China (Sept.19,2025) — Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen. Tea Seiha met with Malaysian Defense Minister Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled bin Nordin in Beijing to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and addressing recent border tensions with Thailand.

The meeting took place during the 12th Beijing Xiangshan Forum, where Gen. Seiha raised concerns over a recent incident involving Thai police and Cambodian civilians in Prey Chan village, O’Bei Choan commune, Ou Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province.

According to Seiha, the confrontation followed an unauthorized intrusion by Thai forces into a disputed area, violating the spirit of the General Border Committee (GBC) meeting. He emphasized that such disputes should be resolved through the Joint Border Committee (JBC) mechanism.

Seiha thanked Malaysia for its support in promoting the ceasefire and backing the ASEAN-led IOT Enhance working group, which recently conducted an on-site inspection of the border zone.

Prime Minister Hun Manet also raised the issue in a phone call with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, citing injuries sustained during the clash and calling for urgent ASEAN involvement to de-escalate tensions and preserve regional stability.
