France Welcomes Cambodia–Thailand Border Talks, Urges Continued Cooperation

Phnom Penh, Cambodia (Sept.19,2025) — France has welcomed recent progress in border negotiations between Cambodia and Thailand and called on both nations to maintain dialogue and uphold the ceasefire agreement.

In a statement issued by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, France praised the outcome of the Sept. 10 General Border Committee meeting, particularly the decision to launch joint demining operations along disputed areas.

“France particularly welcomes the decision of the two parties to work together to demine along the border,” the ministry said.

The statement also reaffirmed France’s support for regional diplomacy, noting: “France reiterates its full support for Malaysia, Chair of ASEAN, in its efforts to promote regional stability.”

Vannarith Chheang, chairman of the Angkor Social Innovation Park, echoed the call for international engagement, emphasizing that third-party involvement is essential to ensure compliance and lasting peace.

Government spokesperson Pen Bona said Cambodia remains committed to peaceful solutions, describing peace as central to the country’s national development strategy.

The GBC meeting, held in Khemarak Phoumin, Koh Kong province, marked the first special session between Cambodia and Thailand aimed at easing border tensions. The talks have been welcomed by several countries and international organizations, including Japan, Australia, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and China.
