PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Sept.17, 2025) — Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to establish a joint task force to combat cross-border crimes, including cyber fraud and human trafficking, officials said Tuesday.

The agreement was reached during a bilateral meeting between the Cambodian National Police and Thai Provincial Police on Sept. 16 in Thailand’s Sa Kaeo Province, according to Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior.

The initiative builds on momentum from the First Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC), held Sept. 10 in Cambodia’s Koh Kong Province, where both sides emphasized the need for deeper cooperation among law enforcement agencies.

Under the agreement, the Ministries of Interior and National Police from both countries will meet again within a week to formally establish a joint working group tasked with drafting a comprehensive action plan.

Officials said the task force will focus on preventing and suppressing transnational crimes, particularly technology-driven fraud and human trafficking, which have become growing concerns in the region.

The Ministry of Interior said both governments are committed to implementing the cooperation in a spirit of mutual respect, legal compliance and sovereignty.

Cambodia reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on cross-border crime and urged Thailand to match its commitment to safeguarding citizens on both sides of the border.
