Cambodia, UNDP Explore New Areas of Health Sector Cooperation

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Sept.17, 2025) — Health Minister Chheang Ra met with Enrico Gaveglia, resident representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), to discuss ongoing collaboration and new areas of support for Cambodia’s healthcare system.

During the meeting at the Ministry of Health, Ra thanked UNDP for its continued technical and financial assistance, which he said has helped improve public health, strengthen healthcare infrastructure, manage medical waste, and supply essential equipment during the COVID-19 response.

He also highlighted UNDP’s role in supporting integrated health programs aligned with the ministry’s priorities and Cambodia’s push toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Ra briefed the delegation on nine health sector priorities and three strategic directions currently underway.

Both sides discussed expanding cooperation in several areas, including strengthening health financing and information systems, promoting digital health solutions, improving supply chain logistics through data-driven tools, and developing a roadmap for sustainable health financing.

Gaveglia expressed appreciation for the warm welcome and reaffirmed UNDP’s commitment to supporting Cambodia’s health sector modernization through digital innovation and resilient financing models.

Ra described UNDP as not only a development partner but also a trusted advisor in advancing reforms related to climate resilience and digital transformation. He said Cambodia aims to build a health system that is inclusive, sustainable and responsive to future challenges.
