Cambodia–China Bilateral Trade Surpasses USD 11 Billion in First Seven Months of 2025

From January to July 2025, bilateral trade between Cambodia and China reached over USD 11 billion, marking a 26.1% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Of that total, Cambodia’s exports to China amounted to more than USD 888 million—a decline of 8.9%—while imports from China totaled USD 10.11 billion, up 26.1%, according to the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE).

The figures indicate that Cambodia recorded a trade deficit of over USD 9 billion with China during the seven-month period.

Lor Vichet, Vice President of the Cambodia-China Commerce Association, noted that Cambodia’s significant trade deficit with China stems from its heavy reliance on Chinese raw materials for manufacturing, which are then exported to markets in Europe and the United States.

He added that Cambodia must find ways to reduce the trade imbalance, including developing domestic factories capable of supplying raw materials locally.

Minister of Commerce Cham Nimul stated that Cambodia expects to expand its network of trade partners and sign more trade agreements to promote liberalization. This, she said, would enhance the flow of goods, investment, and services between countries.

Cambodia’s main exports to China include agricultural products, furniture, jewelry, and textiles. Meanwhile, imports from China consist of raw materials for factories and enterprises, daily consumer goods, food and beverages, vehicles, machinery, construction materials, electrical equipment, and electronics.

According to the Ministry of Commerce, bilateral trade between Cambodia and China reached USD 15.18 billion in 2024, up 23.8% compared to 2023. Cambodian exports to China were valued at USD 1.75 billion, an increase of 18.4%, while imports from China totaled USD 13.43 billion, up 24.6%.
