PHNOM PENH, Mar 19, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and Slovakia are planning to deepen diplomatic, economic and cultural cooperation as the two countries prepare to mark the 70th anniversary of relations next year, officials said Thursday.

Senate president Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed Alexander Micovčin, the newly appointed Slovak ambassador to Cambodia, during a meeting in Phnom Penh.

Samdech Techo expressed hope that the envoy’s tenure would help expand bilateral ties and encouraged celebrations to highlight the milestone.

Ambassador Micovčin pledged to advance the partnership, citing economic, trade, business and investment relations as priorities.

He said Slovakia would work to strengthen cooperation in these areas while supporting broader exchanges between the two nations.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen affirmed Cambodia’s support for expanding cooperation in economic and investment sectors, stressing that these ties are central to the relationship beyond diplomacy.

He praised the foreign ministries of both countries for their collaboration in international forums and noted that such cooperation helps reinforce mutual trust and stability.

The meeting also underscored the importance of cultural and people to people exchanges, with both sides highlighting the role of education, tourism and business partnerships in building stronger ties.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen concluded by wishing Ambassador Micovčin success in his mission, saying Cambodia remains committed to strengthening relations with Slovakia as the two nations prepare to celebrate seven decades of formal diplomatic ties.
