PHNOM PENH, March 23, 2026 (KPT) — Senior Cambodian officials and diplomats have gathered in Phnom Penh to mark the 10th anniversary of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (LMC), underscoring the framework’s role in promoting regional peace, stability and development.

The reception, held on March 20, was co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Chinese Embassy as part of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Week 2026.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn delivered remarks, joined by China’s ambassador to Cambodia, Wang Wenbin, along with deputy prime ministers, ministers, senior officials and representatives from embassies of Mekong-Lancang countries.

Prak Sokhonn said the event highlighted the achievements of the six member states — Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam — in advancing cooperation across multiple sectors.

He emphasized the framework’s importance in fostering mutual trust, economic growth and sustainable development along the Mekong River.

Ambassador Wang noted that China has supported Cambodia through 106 projects under the LMC Special Fund over the past decade, spanning transport, agriculture, health, science and technology, and tourism.

He said the initiatives have benefited hundreds of thousands of people and reinforced the shared future of the six nations.

“The six Lancang-Mekong countries have a shared river and a shared future,” Wang said, expressing hope that cooperation will continue to deepen in the years ahead.
