Cambodia Calls Mekong-Lancang River a Symbol of Peace at Mine Action Seminar
SIEM REAP, Cambodia (Oct. 29, 2025) — Cambodian Senior Minister Ly Thuch, first vice-chair of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority, described the Mekong-Lancang River as a symbol of life, peace, and regional cooperation during the opening of the Mekong-Lancang Mine Action Seminar in Siem Reap Province.

Thuch urged countries in the region to work together to eliminate war remnants and build hope for future generations. He highlighted Cambodia’s progress in humanitarian mine action but warned that landmines and explosive remnants of war continue to pose serious threats.
“Ensuring peace and safety in the Mekong-Lancang region requires ongoing cooperation to eradicate war remnants and protect communities,” Thuch said, emphasizing the shared responsibility of all nations.
He welcomed regional participants and praised their commitment to collaboration. Thuch also presented Cambodia’s Siem Reap-Angkor 2025–2029 Action Plan, outlining a roadmap for mine clearance and sustainable development.
Thuch expressed appreciation to China for its support in mine action and regional development. The seminar is part of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Mine Action Project, funded by China’s Special Fund, and aims to strengthen regional cooperation and promote safer communities.
He concluded by calling for continued strategic action to ensure peace and security across the region.
