Cambodia hosts international delegation to highlight sovereignty concerns

PURSAT, March 27, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia invited a delegation of ambassadors, diplomatic representatives and international organizations to Thmada commune, Veal Veng district, on Friday to observe what Phnom Penh described as violations of its sovereignty by Thailand.
The visit, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, who said the presence of diplomats allowed the international community to witness the situation firsthand.
Sokhonn reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to a peaceful resolution. “What we want is to resolve this peacefully through legal means. But it is very difficult to talk with those who have military power and weapons,” he said.
He stressed Cambodia does not seek a military solution, citing Prime Minister Hun Manet’s diplomatic outreach in the United States and Europe. Sokhonn urged Thailand to respect treaties and international law, while calling for continued international support.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Pen Bona said more than 36,000 Cambodians remain displaced, accusing Thai forces of creating “new facts on the ground.”

He urged Bangkok to honor commitments made under a December 2025 joint statement prioritizing civilian areas.
The ministry reiterated that the Joint Boundary Commission remains the key mechanism for defining the frontier, citing a December 2025 General Border Committee meeting that called for resuming survey and demarcation work.
It also pointed to a March 19 declaration by a joint Thai Cambodian information body as reflecting principles Cambodia has “consistently upheld,” including dialogue and non violence.
Officials said Cambodia will continue pressing for technical negotiations, stressing its reliance on international law and peaceful settlement amid renewed border tensions.
