PM orders probe into fatal hit and run that killed six

PHNOM PENH, March 31, 2026 (KPT)— Prime Minister Hun Manet has ordered a full investigation into a hit and run crash that left six people dead in Battambang province.
In a statement posted on his official social media, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet instructed Justice Minister Koeut Rith and National Police Chief Sar Thet to identify the driver and ensure they face justice.
The crash occurred on March 27 in Moung Ruessei district of Battambang province, when a vehicle struck victims before fleeing the scene. Authorities said six people were killed, including an unborn baby.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed condolences to the families and acknowledged public concern that the perpetrator might evade punishment due to alleged connections with officials.
He said a “thorough investigation” must establish the driver’s identity and enforce the law strictly.
The premier also urged caution on the roads ahead of the Khmer New Year, warning that reckless driving, including drunk driving, would face the “strictest legal penalties.”
He called on authorities nationwide to strengthen road safety measures during the holiday period.
