Russian Warships Make Port Call in Cambodia to Boost Defence Ties

PHNOM PENH, April 6, 2026 (KPT) – Two Russian naval vessels have docked in Cambodia’s coastal city of Sihanoukville for a three-day visit aimed at strengthening defence ties.
The warships Sovershenny and Rezky, from Russia’s Pacific Fleet, arrived at the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port on the morning of April 6, carrying a combined crew of 262 personnel, Cambodian officials said.
The vessels are commanded by Captains Artem Shmagin and Evgenii Kovalev and will remain until April 8.
Rear Admiral In Sokhemara, deputy commander of Ream Naval Base, welcomed the ships alongside dozens of Cambodian naval personnel. Russian Ambassador Anatoly Borovik also attended the ceremony.
The visit is intended to enhance cooperation between the Cambodian and Russian navies, reflecting longstanding ties between the two countries.
As part of the programme, personnel from both sides are expected to take part in joint activities, including a friendly football match.
