PHNOM PENH, April 9, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodian government has reiterated its commitment to resolving border disputes with Thailand peacefully, spokesman Pen Bona said Thursday.

Bona confirmed that Phnom Penh has repeatedly proposed joint surveys and completion of demarcation “as quickly as possible,” in line with international law, treaties, and conventions.

“In the spirit of respecting our jointly agreed declaration and the long-standing desire for peace along the border, Cambodia remains fully committed to a peaceful resolution while protecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said.

He added that Prime Minister Hun Manet and senior cabinet ministers have been actively working to achieve a fair solution, consistent with the joint declaration signed on December 27, 2025, and earlier agreements.

Bona stressed that Cambodia upholds the internationally recognized border line established by the Franco-Siamese and Indo-China-Siamese commissions, citing the principle of Uti Possidetis Juris, treaties, maps, and markers. “Cambodia does not recognize any border changes resulting from the use of force,” he said.

Following recent activities of the Joint Border Commission (JBC), Cambodia has urged Thailand to convene a special urgent meeting and continue agreed survey work.

Bona highlighted point three of the December 2025 declaration, which confirms that agreements under the declaration shall not affect international boundary demarcation.

Both countries have agreed the JBC should prioritize areas with civilian populations, ensure safety for mixed surveying teams—including landmine protection—and complete demarcation swiftly to secure long-term peace.
