PHNOM PENH, April 10, 2026 (KPT) – Government spokesman Pen Bona has highlighted two key diplomatic developments, including Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet’s exchanges with French President Emmanuel Macron and discussions on Cambodia’s border concerns with Thailand.

Speaking Friday, Bona said the messages exchanged between Hun Manet and Macron following the Cambodian leader’s visit to France reflected “a close and warm friendship” and underlined efforts to elevate relations to a strategic partnership.

Samdech Thipadei thanked Macron for what he described as a warm welcome and productive talks, and said he looked forward to hosting the French leader in Cambodia later this year for the Francophonie Summit.

Macron, in his message, emphasized long-standing ties between the two countries, citing cooperation in energy, health, and cultural heritage. He confirmed plans to visit Cambodia in November for the summit.

During their talks, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also raised concerns over Thai military activities in disputed border areas, which he said had altered conditions on the ground.

Bona stressed that Cambodia reiterated its commitment to resolving disputes peacefully, in line with the UN Charter, the ASEAN Charter, and existing agreements.

He added that Cambodia and France reaffirmed support for multilateralism and international cooperation, stressing the importance of international law and a rules-based global order.

Separately, on April 9, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn met in France with the head of UNESCO to discuss strengthening cooperation in heritage protection, as well as regional and international issues, including the Cambodia-Thailand border situation.
