PHNOM PENH, April 10, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has expressed condolences to Indonesia following an attack that left Indonesian peacekeepers killed and injured while serving with a United Nations mission in Lebanon.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the government and people of Cambodia extended “heartfelt condolences and sympathies” to Indonesia and its citizens.

The casualties occurred during armed attacks on positions of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) near Adchit Al Qusayr and Bani Hayyan on March 29 and 30.

Cambodia also expressed solidarity with UN peacekeepers from Indonesia and other countries who continue their mission, urging all parties to respect international law and avoid actions that endanger UN personnel, civilians, and infrastructure.

According to UNIFIL, two Indonesian peacekeepers were killed in southern Lebanon in late March when an “explosion of unknown origin destroyed their vehicle.”

Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono said earlier this week that Jakarta wants a thorough UN investigation into the deaths.

“This is a peacekeeping mission. Incidents such as this should not happen,” he told reporters, stressing the need for stronger security guarantees for peacekeeping soldiers.

Cambodia’s statement reaffirmed its support for UN peacekeeping operations and called for accountability to ensure the safety of personnel serving in conflict zones.
