PHNOM PENH, April 10, 2026 (KPT) – King Norodom Sihamoni has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and will remain abroad for medical treatment, the Royal Palace said Friday.

According to the statement, medical tests conducted at a hospital in Beijing confirmed the King’s condition.

Palace officials said he is currently under medical care and will not be able to return to Cambodia at this time. Doctors have advised him to remain in hospital for one to two months for treatment and recovery.

The Palace added that the King expressed gratitude to senior Buddhist leaders, members of the Royal Family, and Cambodian citizens, while extending New Year wishes for health, prosperity, and happiness on the occasion of the Khmer New Year.

His Majesty also conveyed that he and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath were offering “deepest thoughts and heartfelt wishes” for the wellbeing of all Cambodians.

The announcement comes as Cambodia prepares for national celebrations of the Khmer New Year, with the Palace emphasizing the King’s continued concern for the nation despite his absence.
