Cambodia’s King Undergoes Successful Surgery in Beijing as Senate President Visits

PHNOM PENH, April 20, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s King Norodom Sihamoni has undergone successful surgery in Beijing, where Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen is accompanying the monarch, officials said Monday.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen wrote on Facebook that the operation, performed by Chinese specialists, was completed successfully on April 20 and that the King had regained consciousness after anaesthesia. He said medical teams were closely monitoring the recovery.
Samdech Techo added that the King and Queen Mother expressed gratitude for prayers from Buddhist leaders and citizens, and thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping, the government and the medical team for their support.
He said he and family members, including Prime Minister Hun Manet and Hun Many, travelled to Beijing on April 17 to accompany the royal family during treatment.
The Royal Palace separately confirmed the King had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and would remain abroad for one to two months under medical supervision before returning to Cambodia.
