PHNOM PENH, April 28, 2026 (KPT) — Singapore has voiced strong support for Cambodia’s new law targeting online scams, describing it as a sign of “commitment and clear strategy” to combat a growing transnational crime, officials said Tuesday.

Singapore’s ambassador to Cambodia, Steven Pang Chee Wee, met Chhay Sinarith, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Commission for Combating Online Scams, during a courtesy call and working discussion in Phnom Penh on April 27.

Sinarith outlined Cambodia’s legal and institutional framework, noting that the new legislation would strengthen efforts to dismantle criminal networks by targeting masterminds, accomplices and related actors.

He said the government aimed to address the issue at its root, prevent recurrence, and intensify cooperation with international partners against related crimes such as money laundering and human trafficking.

Pang said Singapore recognized online scams as a complex global challenge requiring close collaboration.

He welcomed Cambodia’s efforts, noting that the creation of a dedicated committee under the prime minister’s leadership had already produced “notable results.”

The ambassador voiced full support for the implementation of Cambodia’s anti scam law, calling it a progressive step that demonstrates determination to tackle the issue.

He added that Singapore was ready to expand cooperation through capacity building, information sharing and joint initiatives.
