PHNOM PENH, May 5, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet will lead a high level delegation to the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, the Philippines, from May 7–8, the Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

The visit comes at the invitation of Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., whose country holds the ASEAN chairmanship this year.

Samdech Thipadei will be accompanied by his wife, Dr Pich Chanmony, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, senior ministers and private sector representatives.

The summit, themed “Navigating Our Future, Together”, will address regional challenges including energy security, food stability and the safety of ASEAN nationals.

Leaders are also expected to discuss broader geopolitical and economic issues, with emphasis on strengthening cooperation and resilience within the bloc.

On the sidelines, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet is due to hold bilateral talks with fellow ASEAN leaders to deepen cooperation and advance shared interests.

ASEAN summits, convened twice yearly, set priorities and coordinate responses to cross border challenges. Recent meetings have focused on energy demand, food supply resilience, climate change and rising geopolitical tensions.

The Cebu gathering comes amid mounting concerns over energy supply disruptions linked to global market volatility and climate related impacts on agriculture.

Security of citizens abroad is also a recurring theme, as migration and cross border travel increase across the region.

For Cambodia, ASEAN participation remains central to foreign policy. A member since 1999, Phnom Penh last chaired the bloc in 2022.

Engagement at this level bolsters diplomatic ties, investment prospects and regional decision making.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, who assumed office in 2023, has continued Cambodia’s emphasis on multilateral cooperation while promoting economic growth and trade.

His attendance underscores Phnom Penh’s intent to play an active role in shaping ASEAN’s future direction.
