PHNOM PENH, May 13, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and supporting peaceful efforts to resolve the Cambodia–Thailand border dispute, officials said Wednesday.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn held a telephone conversation on May 12 with Allison Hooker, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs.

According to Cambodia’s foreign ministry, both sides welcomed positive momentum in relations and discussed ways to deepen cooperation in defense, security and combating transnational crime.

Prak Sokhonn expressed appreciation for U.S. support for the Cambodia–Thailand peace process, noting Washington’s role in encouraging dialogue and stability.

He reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to implementing the ceasefire agreement reached on July 28, 2025, the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration signed on October 26, 2025, and the Joint Statement issued after the 3rd Special General Border Committee meeting on December 27, 2025.

Officials also highlighted Cambodia’s growing trade with the United States, which reached US$13.14 billion in 2025, with Cambodian exports totaling US$12.73 billion and U.S. imports at US$417 million, making the U.S. Cambodia’s largest export market.
