Information Minister Launches Second Phase of Anti‑Fake News Campaign

PHNOM PENH, May 18, 2026 (KPT) — Information Minister Neth Pheaktra on Monday urged young people to play a greater role in combating misinformation as the government rolled out the second phase of its “Say No to Fake News” campaign.
Speaking at Hun Sen Bun Rany Wat Phnom High School, Pheaktra called on teachers and students to actively support efforts to curb false information. “Please join the campaign to fight against fake news and say no to fake news,” he said.
The new phase follows an earlier rollout and is being implemented under the theme “Strengthening Information and Media Literacy for Information Safety.”
The initiative aims to boost media literacy among youth and reduce the impact of misinformation by encouraging students to identify and reject fake content.
Pheaktra said schools were a key platform for awareness, noting that more young people rely on smartphones and digital platforms for information.

While acknowledging the benefits of technology, he warned of risks if users lack media literacy skills.
He urged students not to share unverified content and to check sources before reposting online.
The campaign is part of broader government efforts to strengthen information security and promote access to reliable news while discouraging the spread of misinformation across social media.
