Cambodia Drafts New Media Guidelines to Protect Rights of Women, Children and People with Disabilities

PHNOM PENH, June 8, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Ministry of Information is drafting new guidelines to improve news coverage of women, children and people with disabilities, aiming to strengthen media ethics and safeguard the rights of vulnerable groups, officials said Monday.
The ministry reviewed progress on the draft “Guidelines on News Reporting to Protect the Rights of Women, Children, and Persons with Disabilities” during a meeting in Phnom Penh chaired by spokesperson Tep Asnarith.
Representatives from Plan International, Save the Children, World Vision, UNICEF and CARE joined the session.
According to the ministry, the guidelines are designed to promote dignity, respect and professional standards in journalism. Asnarith said responsible reporting can help protect privacy and safety, build public trust and contribute to a safer social environment.
International partners welcomed the initiative as a positive step toward reducing harmful or discriminatory reporting.
Participants also discussed plans for consultations with journalists, women’s groups, child advocates and disability organisations to gather feedback before finalising the guidelines.
