PHNOM PENH, May 26, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and Hungary have reaffirmed their partnership, highlighting growing political, economic and educational cooperation during a farewell meeting in Phnom Penh as Hungary’s ambassador concluded his diplomatic mission.

Ambassador Tibor Balogdi met Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet at the Peace Palace on Tuesday, describing relations between the two countries as a “close partnership” rooted in shared history and strengthened through expanding cooperation in recent years.

He pointed to increasing high‑level exchanges across executive and legislative branches, as well as rising engagement between investors, as evidence of deepening ties.

Balogdi said Hungary remained committed to strengthening cooperation with Cambodia at bilateral, regional and global levels, and thanked Cambodian authorities for their support during his tenure.

Prime Minister Hun Manet praised the envoy’s role in advancing relations and welcomed the steady development of political and institutional ties.

He expressed appreciation for Hungary’s continued provision of scholarships to Cambodian students, saying such support contributed to human resource development.

Samdech Thipadei stressed the importance of both state‑to‑state and people‑to‑people relations in building long‑term friendship.

He encouraged further private sector engagement, including business exchanges in areas such as water resource management and agro‑industry, and urged Hungarian investors to explore opportunities in Cambodia’s emerging sectors.

Both sides expected cooperation to continue expanding in the coming years, with education, trade and investment identified as priority areas.

The farewell meeting underscored the role of long‑standing partnerships in Cambodia’s broader diplomatic outreach, as Phnom Penh seeks to deepen ties with European partners while advancing regional integration.
