PHNOM PENH, May 27, 2026 (KPT) — The National Assembly of Cambodia (NA) has welcomed a recommendation from the European Parliament urging the peaceful resolution of the Cambodia‑Thailand border dispute in line with international law.

The European Parliament adopted Recommendation No. P10 TA (2026)0182 on May 26 for submission to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, calling on both countries to resolve disputes through diplomatic dialogue.

In a statement, Cambodia’s National Assembly said the recommendation encouraged the use of bilateral, regional and international mechanisms consistent with the UN Charter and relevant treaties.

Lawmakers expressed appreciation to the European Union and its member states for their continued attention to the situation and for past humanitarian assistance to Cambodia.

The Assembly reaffirmed its support for Prime Minister Hun Manet’s government in pursuing a peaceful settlement based on international law and ASEAN principles.

It added that it hoped existing bilateral mechanisms, particularly the Cambodia‑Thailand Joint Border Commission, would resume work in good faith to advance discussions.

The endorsement reflected growing international support for Cambodia’s position that disputes must be resolved peacefully, without force or unilateral actions, and through mechanisms that safeguard stability and regional cooperation.
