ASEAN and US Review Strategic Partnership Ahead of 50th Anniversary

PHNOM PENH, June 3, 2026 (KPT) — Senior officials from ASEAN and the United States on Wednesday reviewed progress under their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and set priorities for future cooperation during talks in Jakarta.
The 38th ASEAN‑US Dialogue was co‑chaired by Cambodia’s Secretary of State and ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting leader Kung Phoak and US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Michael George DeSombre at the ASEAN Secretariat.
Delegates welcomed the successful implementation of the ASEAN‑US Plan of Action (2021–2025), assessed ongoing collaboration under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and explored new areas for cooperation.
They also exchanged views on regional and international developments as both sides look ahead to the 50th anniversary of ASEAN‑US Dialogue Relations in 2027.
Separately, ASEAN Secretary‑General Kao Kim Hourn met DeSombre on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit in Kuala Lumpur to discuss advancing outcomes from the summit, including the ASEAN‑US Leaders’ Joint Vision Statement.
