Cambodia Calls For Calm: Rejects Thai Allegations As Baseless

Recent assertions by the Thai government, depicting Cambodia as an “invader” and a threat to its national security, are unfounded, illogical and incongruent with the prevailing realities that are occurring along the Cambodia-Thai border. Such characterizations serve to misrepresent Cambodia’s standing both within the region and on the international stage, thereby undermining the principles of understanding and cooperation.

It is imperative to acknowledge that branding Cambodia in this manner lacks justification and is detrimental to regional harmony. These accusations exacerbate tensions unnecessarily and overlook Cambodia’s sustained efforts to promote peaceful and constructive engagement.

Cambodia has consistently prioritized dialogue and diplomatic solutions over confrontation in its relations with neighboring states. Within the intricate geopolitical framework of Southeast Asia, it is vital for nations to engage with one another through mutual respect and a commitment to collaboration.

The inflammatory narrative emanating from Thailand threatens to exacerbate discord and diverts attention from the critical opportunities for joint initiatives addressing shared challenges.

The reality remains unequivocal: The scars of war remain highly visible in Cambodia which is a small country with limited population and weak economy, and consequently, is in no way and very illogical to be either an aggressor nor a threat to Thai national security.

Samsul Rizal Musa, the Malaysian head of ASEAN Interim Observer Team (IOT) to Thailand, noted on 17 September 2025 in front of the media that “the soldiers of Thai armed forces are of a very high standard, and that they should not worry that “anyone is coming.” He added, “Whatever situation happens right here, must be contained here. We will wait until the JBC meeting and wait until the next decision, okay? Keep calm and everything will be okay, no problem. Believe us and believe in God!”

As conscientious observers of regional dynamics, it is incumbent upon all stakeholders both in Thailand and the international community specially US President Donald J. Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to strongly urge Thai leaders, both civilian and military, to desist from provocative rhetoric and to advocate for policies grounded in unity and reconciliation and look at this neighboring country, Cambodia, as a steadfast partner dedicated to the pursuit of peaceful coexistence.

Only through a collective and resolute effort can enduring peace and security be assured in this diverse and vital region which is navigating through this uncertain and turbulent world.
