PHNOM PENH, March 2 (KPT) – Cambodian authorities have intensified measures to safeguard citizens and students in parts of the Middle East affected by escalating conflict, while urging restraint from all parties involved.

Government spokesperson Pen Bona told reporters at a daily briefing that Prime Minister Hun Manet has made the welfare of Cambodians abroad a priority and is closely monitoring developments.

“All Cambodian diplomatic missions in the Middle East have been instructed to inform nationals of safety measures and provide emergency contact support,” Bona said.

He added that Phnom Penh was calling on all sides to exercise maximum restraint to prevent further escalation and protect civilian lives.

Embassies in Türkiye and Kuwait have been in regular contact with students and citizens, advising them to remain vigilant, follow local safety guidance and prepare for emergencies.

Officials have also maintained dialogue with student representatives to monitor their well‑being.

According to government figures, 239 Cambodian students are currently studying in Israel – 153 from the Royal University of Agriculture and 86 from the Prek Leap National School of Agriculture – while 27 are in Kuwait.

Additional Cambodian nationals are known to reside, work or travel in other affected countries. No cases of Cambodians harmed in the conflict have been reported so far.

In a statement issued on February 28, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation expressed deep concern over the situation and reiterated Cambodia’s call for all sides to avoid actions that could endanger civilians or undermine regional stability.

The government’s response highlights Cambodia’s growing focus on the safety of its citizens overseas, particularly in volatile regions, and its commitment to diplomatic engagement aimed at reducing risks to civilians.
