Cambodia discusses preparations for 2026 Francophonie Summit

PHNOM PENH, 2 March 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn has met Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie, to discuss preparations for the 20th Francophonie Summit.
The meeting took place on 2 March at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Phnom Penh. Both sides reviewed progress ahead of the summit, scheduled for 15–16 November in the Cambodian capital.
Discussions focused on coordination between Cambodia and the Francophonie to ensure successful organisation of the biennial gathering, which is expected to bring together leaders and representatives from member states.
Mushikiwabo’s visit, at the invitation of Prak Sokhonn, includes a series of high-level meetings, with courtesy calls on Senate President Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet, as well as other senior officials.
The foreign ministry said the summit will carry “significant importance” for Cambodia and the wider Francophone community, highlighting ongoing cooperation aimed at strengthening ties across the Asia-Pacific region.
Cambodia joined the Francophonie as an observer in 1991 and became a full member in 1993. This will be the first time the country hosts the summit, which brings together heads of state and government to discuss political, cultural, economic and development issues.
