Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos party leaders reinforce long-standing ties

PHNOM PENH, 9 February 2026 (KPT) – Leaders of the ruling parties of Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos have pledged to deepen political, economic and security cooperation following a trilateral summit in Phnom Penh.
The meeting on 6 February brought together Samdech Hun Sen, President of Cambodia’s People’s Party (CPP) and Senate, To Lam, General Secretary of Vietnam’s Communist Party (CPV),
And Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of Laos’s People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and President of Laos, alongside prime ministers, parliamentary leaders and senior officials.
According to the CPP, the leaders exchanged views on national, regional and international developments, shared experiences, and set strategic directions for future cooperation.
They reaffirmed their countries’ development goals of achieving high-income status by 2045 for Vietnam, 2050 for Cambodia and 2055 for Laos.
The summit pledged stronger collaboration across diplomacy, defence, security, trade, science, technology, tourism, education and culture. On economic ties, leaders agreed to double trilateral trade and advance the “Three Countries, One Destination” tourism initiative.
Security cooperation was also emphasized, with commitments to combat terrorism, transnational crime, drug trafficking and human trafficking, and to coordinate responses to infectious diseases, climate change and natural disasters.
The three parties agreed to hold their next trilateral summit in Vientiane in 2027.
