Industry Ministry Mobilizes FTC to Boost Food Safety Standards, Consumer Confidence

PHNOM PENH, Feb 5, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation has called on local food producers to step up hygiene and safety practices to strengthen consumer trust, as the country’s food sector expands to meet rising domestic demand and export opportunities.

The Ministry, through the Cambodia-Korea Food Technology Center (FTC), on Wednesday launched a training program on food safety and hygiene aimed at raising standards and ensuring compliance across the industry.

Opening the session, Hong Rada, Undersecretary of State and FTC Project Director, said food safety was “a fundamental foundation for protecting public health and building consumer confidence both at home and abroad.”

The course addressed food safety standards and labeling, the development of Cambodian products in line with international requirements, pilot processing technologies to improve quality, and the role of preservatives in safeguarding health.

Kim Young Chan, head of the Korean project team, urged enterprise owners to make use of FTC’s equipment and advisory services to translate training into practical improvements in production.

The initiative underscores the Ministry’s push to raise industry standards, help producers meet regulatory requirements, and enhance the competitiveness of Cambodian food products in both local and export markets.
