PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec.30,2025) — Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence said the situation along the Cambodian-Thai border remains calm, with no reports of gunfire since a ceasefire took effect last week.

At a daily press briefing Dec. 29, ministry spokeswoman Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata said Cambodian authorities had recorded no attacks by Thai armed forces between noon Dec. 27, when the ceasefire began, and 8 a.m. Dec. 30.

She said conditions in Military Regions Four and Five remained stable as both sides continued to implement the truce agreed at a General Border Committee meeting held Dec. 27.

Socheata added that while the border was calm, the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces remained on high alert to safeguard the country’s territorial integrity. She said the government and public were united and authorities were closely monitoring developments.

The ministry reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to fully implementing all agreed principles, including the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord. The agreement was signed by the prime ministers of Cambodia and Thailand during the ASEAN Summit in October and witnessed by U.S. President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Cambodia and Thailand agreed to an immediate ceasefire during the border committee meeting in Thailand, effective from noon Dec. 27 for an initial 72-hour period.

Cambodia said the agreement also includes Thailand’s commitment to release 18 Cambodian soldiers detained during the first armed clash in July, in line with provisions of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord.
